About Massachusetts APSE

Massachusetts APSE: The Network on Employment is a state chapter of APSE. Massachusetts APSE works to improve and expand supported employment in Massachusetts, enabling persons with disabilities to become employed in integrated community settings. Members include professionals, consumers, family members, employers, and anyone interested in supporting the mission of the organization.

History:
Massachusetts APSE, previously known as MAPSE, was started in 1991 by a small group of consumers, service providers and state agency staff who wanted to make a difference in the employment of individuals with disabilities. Massachusetts was one of the first official state chapters in the country. A year later, the organization held its first annual conference. Today Massachusetts APSE is a strong, vibrant organization with an ongoing commitment to the original Mission and Statement of Purpose, written over ten years ago.

Mission:
The mission of Massachusetts APSE is to enhance employment opportunities and the quality of life of individuals with severe disabilities by providing education, advocacy and support to consumers, family members, employers, and providers. Massachusetts APSE intends to encourage the development and expansion of innovative employment options.

Statement of Purpose:
Massachusetts APSE will provide training, support, resources, and technical assistance to consumers and service providers in order to develop and access quality employment services options.
Massachusetts APSE intends to effect change in Federal, State and Local Government by advocating and endorsing policies which enhance the employability of persons with disabilities.
Massachusetts APSE will disseminate educational information to employers regarding the employment of people with disabilities.
Massachusetts APSE will publish a quarterly newsletter, The Column, to keep members abreast of evolving employment and legislative issues in conjunction with issuing electronic updates.
Massachusetts APSE will host an annual conference, which includes an annual meeting, awards presentation, training and networking opportunities.
